Conferences
Monday, October 19, 2009 at 10:39PM I've been at several conferences this fall and tomorrow I get to go to my favorite, PopTech. There motto is "World changing people, projects and ideas". There is a lot to be learned from conferences that will enhance your business. Here are my favorite five:
1. Swag!!! If you know me very well you know I love swag. A good piece of swag goes a long way to keeping me coming back for more. The folks at PopTech know their swag. They always have a branded book to take notes with. They always have a bag of some sort. And for this conference it has usually been more like a briefcase. They have some sort of art poster and of course the usual pen. All of which are what I call keepers. I've been to a lot of conferences that have swag but not conference branded.
2. The Presenters! Everyone of these presenters is top notch. Some even a little kooky. They have a way about themselves that captivates the audience.Lately there seems to be a rash of presenters at other conferences that have no stage presence and thus repel the audience.
3. The Presentations! They are relevent and interesting. Most of all each presentation ads to the last. I've been to some where it seems like the presentations all came from an assembly line.
4. The Organization! I love it when everything is running like a top, at least in the eyes of the audience. I've been involve in a few in which it seems like they started to think about the conference 15 minutes before it started. The projector wont sync to the computer, poor audio, late speakers. You get the picture.
5. The People Who Attend! Last year at PopTech I met Paul Simon. In years past I have set next to Bill gates or CC Chapman. There are certain conferences that just attract really high profile guest. And they are not always the most expensive. Having celebrities attend brings the whole energy of the rest of the audience up a notch.
If your business has these 5 components, your business will rock. So what are you waiting for, put together that cool branded swag, get some really personable employees, make sure your company products are relative and interesting, get organized, and get some celebrity clients.
