The PopTech Twitter Cloud

Following the #PopTech on twitter was interesting while attending the conference in person. Seeing the Twitter cloud was even more interesting. These clouds are great for seeing what your message really is. (See What Message Are You Giving 5-24-09) In this case we are examining what messages those who are tweeting about the conference deem important. Words that work author, Frank Lutz, says, "It's not what you say, it's what people hear and see that count." According to the tweet the major message was about what we eat. This was not the case, however, as the conference talk about many subjects beyond Vegans and Hummer drivers. So why was there so much focus in the twitter verse on a single statement, "vegan in a Hummer has a lighter carbon footprint than a beef eater in a Prius" by Michael Pollen? Shock value of course. Statements like these are bound to be repeated over and over again. In the case of this statement Adam Pasick of Reuters wrote this article showing it is not true. The RT's came to a screaching halt. But what was really learned at PopTech was that we can make a change and through social media you don't need to be at a conference to participate.
