Clark Kents Gets ESP

In a recent episode of Smallville Clark Kent gets ESP or the ability to read minds. He is not sure what is happening and why so goes to the Fortress of Solitude to consult with Jorel. Jorel tells him he needs to better understand why humans act the way they do. While interviewing people from a hostage situation Lois gets no where until clark hears the victims thoughts and uses this new knowledge to question in a different manor. For example a woman refuses to answer any questions. Clark finds out she is in the country ilegally so he says, "We are not INS". Eventually he loses the power but remembers the lesson and uses it to read people a little more.

Don't we wish it were as easy as ESP. To make it a little easier might I suggest 3 things. One listen with your eyes and ears. Get a good book on body language and learn some basic principles. Two, ask detailed questions. One of my favorites is "What are you really saying?" I do this a couple of times. It may seem anoying but it really has good results. Three, get some background information. Take some time to learn all you can. If you are going to visit with a potential client, google them before you meet. Find out about their role in the company. It is also a real advantage in building a relationship. I have seen on some occasions this simple method work in getting a lot more information about an RFP including an estimate of the money they were willing to pay. Yes understanding why people act the way they do is a great advantage for you marketing efforts.
