Don't sit down yet!
Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 3:48PM I was at a BNI meeting this afternoon. This is a networking group and you have a chance to give a 60 sec commercial or elevator pitch. In my notes I put names and companies and a little bit about what they need. Here is a mistake I often see, no emphasis on your name and company. The most important information you want to convey is your name and the company name. Many of the people in this meeting end by mentioning their name and company while they were sitting down. Here is my advice:
1. 3-5 words to get attention
2. State your name and company by using slow deliberate speech
3. Identify a pain point your business can solve but dont say how
4. Give and action statement like "Come talk to me to learn more"
5. Restate your name and company by using slow and deliberate speech
All of this can really be done in 30 seconds. Remember the goal is to invite a further conversation, not to tell someone everything your do. Need more on this? Come to my workshop on presenting in December. Stay tune for more information.
