Why Are We So Upset With Tiger Wood?
Friday, December 11, 2009 at 7:54AM This is a great example for marketeers everywhere. Tiger Woods as a product was the best thng we had seen. We watched him grow up, we admired his skill and purity. Everything about him seemed as perfect as could be. Then we were let down because what has come out in the news was so far from our expectations it cut us to the core. Compare this feeling with that of when President Clinton got caught. I guess we expected that from him.
What can we learn? The best way not to get caught is to not do. Marketers need to be open and not try to hide the facts. If you think a behavior will be bad for the brand, don't do it. Get your mindset away from "I don't want to be caught" to "Being caught doing good will result in a better accepted product" it's really not do hard. We live in a more transparent world than ever and we need to prepare.
