It's All About Relationships!

I had heard that there was a study that showed everyone knew on average 2000 people. Take that and multiply it by the 2000 that each of those aquantainces has and you could influence quite a few people right? I know it doesnt really make sense to me either. I want you to re-think this a little. How many of the 2000 people know you well enough to refer you. How many Birthdays, spouses, children of those 2000 do you know. Imagine the impact if you knew those things about your two thousand? Would they refer you in that case? Most likely. So how can you get to this knowledge or should you stick with a lesser number. I say the more the merrier. Here are some tips:

  1. Dont try to meet everyone at an event. Narrow it down to one or two.
  2. Talk about them. use that time to ask about their interest & needs
  3. Ask for their business card
  4. Indescretely take notes (I often will excuse myself and write every high point down on their business card)
  5. After the event input the information into a contact database. Ive used all sorts they all work about the same.
  6. Follow up, but not with a sales pitch. (I know those of you who know me know I do the sales pitch but it is part of my character so I can get away with it, plus food is a necessity of life)

One tool I use is Send Out Cards. It has a decent database where you can record a lot of infomation including spouse, anniversaries, birthdays and notes. The really cool thing is the ability to follow up with a physical object instead of an email that my get caught up in spam. Try my account at http://www.shamelesslypromoting.com I create custom cards and get a lots of responses. They also have gifts you can send.
