Podcasts: They're Fun, Educational & FREE
Monday, August 31, 2009 at 8:42AM A few years back I discovered Podcast. I had heard of them but being the miser I am didn't even try to listen to one. Little did I know what a great value they were. First of all they are free. Yes that is what I said free. I know many of you already know that but your would be surprised how many people don't realize they are free. Second, they are fun. You can find a podcast on almost any subject. Many of the podcasters are radio personalities who podcast as well, so they know what makes a good show. Some of the podcast are sponsored by companies like ABC, AdAge, Ziff-Davis and other. There are unique show like "Ask A Ninja" that will put a smile on your face. And there are many that are recorded by the industry leaders. Which brings us to number 3, educational. Continuing education should be important to any business professional. The world is constantly changing and listening to a 3-40 minute podcast bringing you up to date on a current issue or giving you insight into a particular aspect of your business is worth its weight in gold. I listen to podcast while driving. You will find the best selection on iTunes. Here are a few I am listening to now:
- Quick & Dirty Tips (there are many and all produced really well)
- This Week In Tech with Leo Laporte (All of Leo's podcast are worth a listen)
- AdAge Video
- Cranky Geeks
- Geek Brief
- Discovery News
- Manager Tools
- Media Artist Secrets
- Managing the Gray
- Science Update
- TedTalks
- Pop!Tech
Again these are just a few that keep my education well rounded.

I have to say podcasts are really about passion...it is typically people who are talking about what they are passionate about. And in that respect you can' beat it. Especially if you are passionate about the same thing.
There literally are podcasts on every topic. I am a big fan of the Ninetendo DS and I listen to podcast called "DS:Life Podcast" by Lloyd Hannesson. Two guys who are into the DS about as much as I am. It's very cool. Some shows I listen to are:
Smodcast - Kevin Smith
Adam Carolla Podcast
Dennis Miller Podcast (paid daily version)
All 3 of these guys are great talkers and are good programs to chill out with and unwind with.
