SEO, SEO, SEO! What About The User?
Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 7:00AM Seems like every web designer I know is concentrating on SEO or Search Engine Optimization. This is well and good but with our good UX (User Experience) SEO doesn't matter. I had the privilege of being one of the first UX experts in the early 90's when I was the Senior Software Engineer of Human Interface Design at Computer Intelligence InfoCorp a Ziff-Davis Company. (That sentence was not user friendly) We took time measuring the users reaction and learning curve. You see, without a good user experience potential customers/clients may get to your website but may not stay long enough to consider your company. All SEO does is make sure the search engines find you. Really great web site designers will make sure users stay at your site. Really great web site designers will try to understand your target markets psycographics to create the most engaging website possible. Really good web site designers will know what UX is. Make sure you hire a really good web site designer and get better results. SEO may be important but UX is more important.
