I Don't Have Time!

One concern seems to pop up at every event in which I am presenting, "I don't have time!". There seems to be a misconception about how much time should be used for marketing and especially for social media. Let's put this into prospective. Your business depends on customers, each new customer has a value (see My $40,000 Customer), are you spending the time necessary to get those new customers and still getting the work done to keep the business going. I would work out some sort of time each day you spend on marketing, that is getting customers to buy from you. Make that time sacred. I suggest spending 15 minutes on social media 3 times a day. The time of day should be the optimal time that people read social media sites or applications so that you seem to be "live". This can be easily done by testing out a few links in your tweets or updates and seeing when people come to your site. For me it is between 6-7:30am, 3-4pm and after 9pm. In a 15 minute period you can scan what has been said and respond. You can also use a time delay application to set up some messages you want broadcast later on in that day. (I use http://hootsuite.com/) I also set up an auto broadcast to notify people after I have posted a new blog. (http://twitterfeed.com/).

So the next time you say to yourself I have no time call the Marketing Imagineer for time management advice. You'd be suprized at what you you can do with a little bit of dicipline and planning in just 84,600 seconds a day.
