The Trick To TV Ads
Monday, September 7, 2009 at 10:19PM Back in the day when there were just three networks TV Ads were a great value. Today there are 500 channels available to almost everyone. DVR's have taken over with the ability to fast forward through a commercial. So what is a comapany to do? Ever noticed that when you channels surf they all seem to be on commercials. Large companies have the luxury of buying commercials to be viewed on several channels at the same time. But for a small business the art becomes in producing the commercial and getting it to go "Viral". Here are a few things to try:
- Know your audience. What are their interest, what shows do they watch, what will engage them
- Use the bottom 5th of the screen. When produce a commercial have the main message in a place that the viewer will see even if they are fast forwarding it.
- Make it fresh. Many small TV stations have the same guy write every commercial and it shows. I prefer to write my own based on what I know about my customer.
- MAKE IT INTERESTING. Not like a documentary but like an ad for a movie. Movie ads show all the best scenes and leave you hanging for more.
- Use people you know as actors, but not yourself. Everyone knows someone who is a ham, so use them. Not only is it less expencive but you have just created an audience. That person will want to know when the commercial views and will tell their friends to watch. And friends will tell friends...
- Get it on YouTube, Facebook and your website. Remember those people in step 4. This gives them another place to view it. And if you want your commercial to go viral you need it on the internet.
